MANILA, Philippines — Far Eastern University and La Salle forced a three-way tie at 3-1 as they turned back separate foes in the UAAP Season 85 men’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday at PhilSports Arena.

Mark Calado unleashed 27 points as FEU averted a slow start to beat Ateneo, 24-26, 25-15, 25-23, 27-25, and earn its second straight win.

Carl Cabatac stepped up with 11 points from the bench, nailing eight spikes and three blocks.

“Ateneo has a different aura. My players played at the phase of our opponent. So we controlled our team. Good thing we got a good response from them,” said FEU coch Rei Diaz in Filipino.

FEU joined La Salle and University of Santo Tomas for the share of second place with identical 3-1 records.

Jian Salarazon led the Blue Eagles with 20 points including five blocks as they slid to a 1-3 record. Jet Gopio and Charles Absin added 14 and 12 points, respectively.

Meanwhile, Noel Kampton dropped 22 points as La Salle took down University of the East, 25-20, 16-25, 25-22, 25-22,

Kampton also delivered on the defensive end with 11 excellent receptions and eight digs, while Vince Maglinao also displayed an all-around game for the Green Spikers with 15 points, 20 receptions, and 11 digs.

“From the very start, you can see that the UAAP is not a one-sided league. All the teams are tough and competitive,” La Salle coach Arnold Laniog said. “Every game, we have to be mentally, technically, physically.“

UE slid to 2-2 with Ken Culabat and Lloyd Josafat leading the way with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
