Fury of the Gods first reactions come pouring in

Shazam: Fury of the Gods first reactions hail the film as a super-powered sequel that amps up everything you loved about the first movie.

Shazam: Fury of the Gods will finally hit theaters next week and the first reactions to the DC sequel have begun pouring in on Twitter. From the sounds of things, if you enjoyed the first movie, you’ll love Shazam: Fury of the Gods, with the first reactions calling the movie a super-powered sequel that keeps things funny and emotional. DC Studios James Gunn leads the pack, although he may be somewhat biased.

Our man @JimmytotheO loved #ShazamFuryOfTheGods : Shazam: Fury of the Gods is all that came before, yet it’s bigger, better, and one of the best standalone flicks in the DC! Director David F. Sandberg has outdone himself!

#ShazamFuryOfTheGods // #ShazamMovie is a super-powered sequel that packs a punch. A super solid, super fun & super smart blend of hilarity, heart & heroics. Ramps up the action & irreverence to a delightful degree. Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu & Rachel Zegler are MVPs. the dragon!

Shazam! Fury Of The Gods is a super fun and worthy sequel. Not a game changing comic book movie, but it wins you over with its characters and energy. Has some real surprises and a knowing sensibility that suit it well – plus some creative and exciting monster action. #ShazamMovie

Shazam continues to lean into his silliness and immaturity in this sequel which tells us this franchise will remain to keep these films funny, light and slapstick-ish. The sequel comes with more action, compelling villains and a complicated antihero. #ShazamFuryOfTheGods #Shazam2

SHAZAM FURY OF THE GODS is endearing, hilarious, entertaining and epic. Helen Mirren stands out as a great addition to Shazam’s roster. Sandberg’s film is just as engaging as the first, but here the stakes are upped. Huge twists galore, DC fans are going to love Shazam 2 #Shazam

I saw #Shazam! Fury of the Gods!

It’s a really good sequel. The theme of found family delivers great emotional beats. Sandberg sprinkles some horror elements while maintaining the childish joy & charm of the Shazamily.

Nothing brand new but highly entertaining! Really enjoyed.

#ShazamFuryoftheGods delivers on every level. The action is spectacular, the humor is on point, and the surprises will leave you wanting more. As a fan of the first film, I’m happy to report that this sequel is just as good, if not better.

Within #ShazamFuryOfTheGods is a fun buddy comedy starring Djimon Hounsou & Jack Dylan Grazer. Unfortunately, you have to watch Shazam 2 to see it. Few bright spots bogged down by final act muddy CGI battle. Levi plays Billy as if he’s in on the joke — an uncanny valley of humour

DC is back! #ShazamFuryOfTheGods is much bigger & more explosive than #Shazam. Absolutely love the humor & the way it centers a chosen family. Also, no origin story means the action starts right away & doesn’t stop. Gnarly monsters, fun surprises, ton of heart. I recommend.

“Bestowed with the powers of the gods, Billy Batson and his fellow foster kids are still learning how to juggle teenage life with having adult Super Hero alter-egos,” reads the official synopsis. “But when the Daughters of Atlas, a vengeful trio of ancient gods, arrive on Earth in search of the magic stolen from them long ago, Billy—aka Shazam—and his family are thrust into a battle for their superpowers, their lives, and the fate of their world.“

Shazam: Fury of the Gods director says character has a future in new DC Universe, assuming audiences show up for sequel

It remains to be seen if we’ll see Shazam again in the new DC Universe, but that could all depend on the sequel’s performance at the box office. Director David F. Sandberg recently said, “What I’ve been told is that there’s nothing in the Shazam films that contradict the future plans for DC. So the possibility for more Shazam is there and if that’s what you want your best bet is to go see the film.” Zachary Levi has previously said that he’s not being recast. Levi also came to the defence of DC Studios’ James Gunn when fans began criticizing him for his choices about the franchise. “You have no idea the reasonings behind any of the decisions that are going on,” Levi said. “The amount of conjecture and rumor mill and drama and nonsense that keeps getting spun around out there on Instagram and Twitter is laughable. It is unbelievably laughable. So I would just say be patient and give them some space and some time to try and really make something special. And I think something that DC deserves to have and something that [Zack] Snyder tried to do, and it just didn’t ultimately materialize, guys.“

Shazam: Fury of the Gods will hit theaters on March 17th.
