Keanu Reeves kept the red pill from the set of The Matrix

Keanu Reeves says that he kept the original red pill from the set of The Matrix and gives an update about Constantine 2.

During a recent Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything), Keanu Reeves was asked if he had ever stolen anything from the set, and while Keanu Reeves noted that he’s never actually stolen anything, he does have a few pieces of movie memorabilia, including the iconic red pill from The Matrix.

Not stolen… the watch and wedding ring from John Wick, a sword from 47 Ronin, and the first red pill that the Wachowski’s ever gave me.

As Morpheus says in The Matrix, “You take the blue pill… the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill… you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes.” A tiny red capsule pill may not seem like the most attention-grabbing piece of memorabilia, but if anyone has it, I’m glad it’s Keanu Reeves.

Another Redditor asked Keanu Reeves about the status of Constantine 2, the long-belated sequel to the 2005 thriller, which was announced before James Gunn and Peter Safran took control of DC Studios. Reeves confirmed to Reddit that he has spoken with James Gunn about the project and that he still hopes it will happen.

There were rumours that Constantine 2 had been scrapped once the new regime took over, but a Warner Bros. spokesperson confirmed that the project was still happening. Original director Francis Lawrence is said to be back at the helm of the sequel, with Akiva Goldsman (I Am Legend) writing the script. The original Constantine movie found Constantine helping an LAPD detective (Rachel Weisz) prove that her sister’s death wasn’t a suicide, but was, in fact, something much more sinister.

Francis Lawrence has teased that he would like to develop Constantine 2 with an R-rating in mind. “One of the biggest things for me about the first one was we followed, per Warner Bros., the rules to make a PG-13 movie in terms of violence, blood, language, sexuality,” Lawrence said. “But the ratings board gave us a hard R based on their the gray zone of intensity. And my big, big regret was that we have an R-rated movie that’s really a PG-13 movie. And if I was going to have to go have an R, I would have really made an R-rated movie. I would have made it much scarier and much more violent and I would have really made an R-rated movie. The idea is this time, at least for me, is to really go at it and make a real R-rated Constantine which is, I think, what people always wanted originally, not the PG-13 version that just happens to get an R.“
